Duchess or Socialite?

After last week’s long-anticipated Royal Wedding, the world witnessed Kate Middleton play the role of royal bride with confidence and poise. One almost forgets that she was born to a common middle class family; she not only looked beautiful in her Alexander McQueen gown, but the new Duchess of Cambridge was the perfect agent to her adoring fans.

The American Internet

You can blame the American dominance of the Internet on any number of things. It could be the simple fact that the web address bar at the top of your browser is defined in roman characters. Or maybe it's that the Internet originated as the brainchild of American military think tank DARPA. Yet even if these factors may have provided Americans with a head start, it's more likely that the American saturation of the Internet is a reflection of America's overall saturation of the world. American culture is seemingly borderless, and for the past half century its fashions and products have spread around the world. Teenagers in Africa wear Gap T-shirts and drink Coca-Cola.

Results of the Euro

The euro is the currency used officially by the European Union. The European Union is otherwise known as the eurozone. The eurozone is made up of 17 of the states in the European Union. The euro is the second most commonly used currency in the world. The first being the United States dollar, although according to reports as of 2010, the euro far surpassed the dollar in combined valued of circulation throughout the world. This statistic makes the euro very influential in the global economy.

Queen Kate?

Many young girls spend hours dreaming of what it might be like to be a princess or better yet, a queen. Figuring prominently in their fantasies are visions of carriages, ladies-in-waiting, tiaras, and indulgences of every florid stripe. In the dream, adoring crowds shout her name, and lay flowers along her path whilst her prince awaits just beyond the castle walls. It seems that the fantasy of a queen's life has remained largely unchanged since the days when fairy tales were written. With the marriage of Prince William to Kate Middleton looming just behind the horizon, we shall soon discover whether the monarchy has done a better job at changing with the times.
